In honor of Masturbation May I’m giving some attention to the folks who enhance our masturbation by updating my Superhero Sex Shop list. For those of you who are unfamiliar, the Superhero Sex Shop list celebrates shops that provide quality, body safe products, accurate education and a welcoming, inclusive environment. I started the list in 2013 in an effort to create a comprehensive listing of awesome sex shops and offer guidance for folks who find sex shops intimidating. I’ve always got an eye out for new ones and in the last year several new brick and mortar shops have come along who seem to fit the bill perfectly. I’m so excited to add them and even more excited that these shops are all over the map and take the Superhero Sex Shop list in 4 previously unchartered states – it’s very exciting! So, without further ado, meet the new Superheroes:
The Dahlia Room in Salt Lake City, UT describes itself as “a retail boutique and free space designed to celebrate sexuality, freedom, diversity and human connection.” Among the awesome-sounding classes on their schedule: Post-Mormon Sexuality. Update: The Dahlia Room has closed its doors.
Dynamo is an independent, female-run, female-friendly adult boutique based in New Orleans, Louisiana. They state as their mission, promoting happy, healthy sexuality through education, community outreach, and high quality, body-safe products.
Jellywink in Tucson, AZ calls themselves a sexuality resource center and aims to provided information and products for both those who already wave the “sex geek” flag and those who are curious.
Sid Azmi, the owner of Park Slope, NY’s Please says of her shop “We want to bring sex into the mainstream, it’s about making sex for everyone, not just sex for sexy people.”
In addition to Edmonton-based Traveling Tickle Trunk‘s brick and mortar boutique that offers great shopping and classes they offer sex toy parties and their website is chock full of information. Also, their name is amazing.
Ventura CA’s Trystology is all about “enhancing the relationship of couples and empowering women to own their sexuality through education and providing healthful, body safe products for passionate play.”
Do you know about a sex shop that’s not on my list but should be? Tell me about it!
