I love reading, I love books. I have resisted the e-reader for a long time because I couldn’t get my head around the idea of not having physical books. However, I went on a trip a few weeks ago and ended up bringing 8 books with me! (I made it through 6.5 while I was away) Add to that the occasional sidelong glances I get when publicly reading books on the subject matter I have been studying of late (more than one man has acted like a reading a book pertaining to sex was tantamount to wearing a “horny and not selective” sandwich board) and, well, I finally saw the appeal of something that could hold a bunch of books and not let anyone else see what I was reading. So I finally pulled the trigger and ordered my Kindle. There is still a stack of books on my nightstand though, my to-be-read pile, that I want to get through before I start Kindle-ing as it were. Since I love sharing my finds with you, here they are:
What You Really Really Want: The Smart Girl’s Shame-Free Guide to Sex and Safety
I’m mid-way through this one by the always-awesome Jaclyn Friedman. It encourages journaling and has been immensely helpful in identifying the sources of the hang-ups that have prevented me from enjoying my sex life in the past. At the halfway point, I recommend it.
The Supergirls: Fashion, Feminism, Fantasy, and the History of Comic Book Heroines
When a 3 year-old Bedhead was asked “What do you want to be when you grow up?” she replied “Womba Woman” My fascination hasn’t waned- strong women are sexy!
I Love Female Orgasm
Because, who doesn’t?
Here Lies My Heart: Essays on Why We Marry, Why We Don’t, and What We Find There
Looking at my attitudes toward sexuality has me doing the same with relationships and monogamy.
Talk About Sex: The Battles over Sex Education in the United States
I’ve been spending a lot of time thinking about how we teach children about sex, I’m particularly excited for this one!
Moregasm: Babeland’s Guide to Mind-Blowing Sex
Okay, so this one is kind of a cheat as A. I’ve owned it for a while but my old copy got lost in my last move so this came in my last Amazon order and B. this is more of a “live in the nightstand for reference all the time” kind of gem. But C. Whatever, LOVE this book.
