Masturbation May seems like an awesome time to unleash my second-ever toy review. Here goes!
Once upon a time I walked into Good Vibrations with a limited budget and no knowledge of toy materials (or toy anything for that matter). Budget conscious gal that I was I selected the Butterfly Kiss vibrator. I was informed that the material was porous and thus it was recommended that I use a condom with the toy. Later on, I thought about how I really didn’t want to have to use a condom with my toy and the costs associated with using condoms every time I masturbated and why would one make a toy that necessitated this anyway?!
The original Butterfly Kiss didn’t get much use. Cut to a few months back when I learned that an all-silicone version had been created- woohooo! (Why is that awesome? Read this) As you can imagine, I kind of jumped at the chance to review the Butterfly Kiss Silicone Waterproof Vibrator
Safety First
Point blank- I tried to set my Butterfly Kiss on fire. (Toy companies, please know that if you send me something and tell me it’s silicone, I’m going to take a match to it. It will happen) Is it a dick move to attempt to set a brand new toy ablaze? Maybe. But the fact remains that the toy industry is completely unregulated and companies are flinging around the word “silicone” like a two year-old flings Cheerios so, until that changes, I’m lighting ‘em up.
The Results
It passed with flying colors. This sucker is silicone. Well, apart from where you unscrew it to put the batteries in (that is ABS). But the difference is obvious and only an idiot would put the match there… a, cute, sassy, redheaded idiot who wasn’t paying attention… wait, what? Nothing. Moving along…
How does it work?
This one’s pretty simple- the hard plastic base of the handle easily unscrews to allow for the insertion of two AAA batteries (not included) At the very bottom of the base is a single button that turns the toy on and cycles it through 3 different speeds.
How does it feel?
So, the silicone in question is firm but not stiff, you can bend the shaft and squish the bulb a bit. The finish is matte and smooth. It can produce some drag so lube is good (when is it not?)
No, seriously, how does it feel?
Okay, so as covered, I have owned this toy, in a different material, before so it was of no surprise to me is that, due to its length, the Butterfly Bliss can’t press hard against my g-spot and my clit at the same time but what I also know about this toy is that if I insert it (I like the bulbous head/thinner shaft on this one, I find it comfy for times when you want internal vibration but super-full isn’t the feeling you’re going for) and hang out with it set to the highest of the 3 vibration speeds (I like my toys to make my teeth rattle) I will, with occasional wiggling of the toy, have an orgasm and that’s what happened with this one each time I tried it.
Things I’m down with:
- Yay silicone!
- The relative flatness of the butterfly (as opposed to, say, pointy rabbit ears) I can press it firmly against my clit without things flopping. Also, because perineal sponge stimulation is my jam and I tend to think “when in doubt, reverse cowgirl” I turned it around (butterfly facing back) and was able to get some decent perineal sponge stimulation and cool angles internally as well (though, still no firm g-spot pressure)
- The intensity of the vibration (at least the highest speed- again, I like it strong) is decent for a battery toy
- The price- I love being able to steer you towards a budget-friendly silicone toy!
Things that make me go grrr:
- It looks like Barbie’s dream vibe. Mine is pink, which I don’t mind, but dude, there are butterflies all up in the handle. It’s just too much. Based on appearances, I’d say this is the vibrator 9 year-old me would have picked.
- The weird length. Maybe it’s just my anatomy (and my need for everything to press against stuff REALLY HARD) but a dual stimulation toy should reach everything it’s stimulating. (Worth noting, according to the reviews it totally works for some people- every body is different!)
- The control button. It goes through the 3 speeds and then turns the toy off. So, if you climax at the lowest speed you have to speed it up to shut it off. Conversely, if you are approaching orgasm at the highest speed and bump the button (admittedly, unlikely- you really have to try to press it) you have shut the toy off and have to cycle back from the lowest speed. And the pause…when you go to change speeds there’s a pause in between the old speed and the new. Enough of a pause that I kept going “did I turn it off?”. When I change speeds it’s usually because I’m getting more excited and a pause…no bueno.
- Volume. It’s just loud. As a Hitachi devotee, this doesn’t usually stop me but I tested this one while I was crashing with family and almost called the whole thing off so as to not freak my brother out. If you need/want subtlety, you won’t find it here.
